Let me tell you just a little about Suwannee River Outdoors [SRO].
We’re located in the Original Florida, where tourists use to come to enjoy the quiet and beauty of this area. Where we are totally surrounded by rivers – the Suwannee, the Alapaha and the Wihtlacoochee. Theodore Roosevelt, our great outdoor president was a guest here at the historic old Telford Hotel.
SRO is the latest offspring of John and Boots Vassar, who emigrated to Hamilton County back in “00” 2000 that is. Boots retired from teaching after 34 years and John just wanted to find someplace he could paddle ALL year [and he does]. In 2000 they couldn’t do much on the river because it was the second year of a five year drought and John does not put training wheels on his boats.
Since 2000, they have built a barn [picture] and John got tired of being up in the attic of the barn, so he built himself a Saloon – a real pretty one with a long front porch [28 ft to be exact]. And in “04” John took off to the Potomac River / Chesapeake River area and got his ACA Kayak and Canoe instructor certification [certain folks who know him said he was certifiable a long time ago.]
John now offers a real interesting program – he is our Head Paddler and a real stickler about safety and education.
Being way over 50 he knows that a lot of Baby Boomers, young kids and all of those in between would like to paddle Florida and Georgia rivers, creeks, lakes and yes SWAMPS. To be able to enjoy the beauty that God has given us.

WE also do rive trips and offer some very interesting packages with overnight accommodations at B&Bs, Cabins, or the most awesome campground sites on the Suwannee River Wilderness Trail.
